do ants bite How do you identify fire ants?
How do you tell the difference between fire ants and regular ants? We seem to have lots of ants in our backyard (they especially like the hardwood mulch and rock bed borders). None of them have made big hills, and they are fairly good sized red and black ants. I was wondering if anyone knows how to identify fire ants so that I can leave the harmless (well, relatively : ) ants alone. Thanks! Dawn

Dawn The best way to distinguish fire ants from other is is by kicking (especially after a good rain) the mound and then time how long you can stand right next to the mound to obseve them. The fire ants attack is fierce and painful. BTW/ if you are bitten by fireants a small, itchy pustule forms. this reaction can usually be avoided by soaking the bite in a chlorox & water solution 1:10 ratio. Diane
