: str8gin posted... : : X-Raided from Black Market Records recorded his album X-ocist from : : jail on the phone. He listened to the track on one phone and rapped on : : another. He was on the cover of Murder Dogg Magazine. They said the gun : : on : : his first album was the gun he murdered a guy's mother. : : : : Alright, that's one gangsta rapper out of 1,000. You just proved Malik's : : point. : : : : alan : : Ummmmm Lifer's Group. They recorded their album in prison. : : That's 2 out of 1,000. You're batting at .0005. Keep swinging... : : alan Remember Rappin' 4-Tay. He didn't do his album in prison, but was locked up in San Quentin. And like that poster stated about 2 members in The Almighty RSO murdered, and Remember Seagrams from Rap-A-Lot? He got the back of his head blasted off. In an article, it said he was like a real live pimp. A member from RBL Posse signed with In-A-Minute Records was murdered with multiple shots. Brotha Lynch Hung was shot in a gang related situation and talks about it on his Season of the Sicc album. He and Mr. Doctor talk about Crippin' and had they boy Q-Ball got murdered.

: dead, the resurrection of da geto boys shoulda taught us dat. : Peace : JDee408 : : You must be confusing West Coast with Gangsta. The Luniz are some : comical, free_style_ type emcees, Dru Down is all about pimpin, as is : Richie Rich. I can't even see how you can connect E-40 and the Click : with gangsta rap. 40's usually rappin about gettin drunk, or plain : rappin just to rap. By the way, check his new shit, he's on some skills : type shit. Just cause it's from the left coast and it got some funk in : it don't mean it's some cheesy ass, lyin about all kinds of shit, weakly : produced, wanna-be gangsta shit. : : Fatboy Lyin'?? What do you call abstract? Can a man fly. Can a man breathe fire? I hear bs like that in abstract raps. What's the difference? Especially in battle raps. I'm gonna make this comment quick... Most reality rap is not real. Most abstract rap is not real. (if real=literal) What I mean by this is that most rap lyrics are fiction. Now fiction doesn't necessarily mean that it is invented from scratch. Every invention has to have a foundation. Whether that foundation is _base_d on imagination, on the street life, on getting blunted, on family life, on your community, on your faith, on your observance of fake emcees, or whatever, a good portion of the lyrics that you hear in hip-hop should not be taken literally or as the uncontestable truth. For example, Children's Story is fiction. You Can't Stop the Prophet is fiction. Affirmative Action is lying. Lying is not the same as fiction . Lying is just straight up faking of the truth with the intent to deceive. It's confusing sometimes to try and separate the real from the phony because it relies heavily on looking for narrative devices like exaggeration, use of _meta_phors, etc. I'm so much flavor you could taste me is a _meta_phor (_base_d on the double meaning of the word flavor ) used by Fat Joe to describe himself. It is not meant to be taken literally, but it's not lying . Mafioso rap - not all of it is told with the intent to deceive. But today's p_layer_s in this genre (and the case can be made otherwise) tend to rely too much on comparing themselves to historical organized crime figures. Meaning they use it for more than a poetic or narrative device, it's like they are pimping the sh*t out of it for as long as the public buys into it. True street poets rhyme from their own experience and use _meta_phors to enhance their raps, while the fake ones rhyme from the experience of strangers (e.g. Al Capone, Frank Nitti) and use their own experience as a side note. Graig Warner ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ It seems like keep it real means real bogus, real fake and unfocused when you wrote this
