, OH YEA!!!! Now will someone explain effaced to me? Trisha, Effacement has to do with cervical thinning. George Drum That de_script_ion always made it about as clear as mud to me. I finally understood effacement when I read a de_script_ive comparison that said the cervix must go from the shape of the opening of a wine bottle (small opening, long skinny neck) to a large open-mouth jar (wide opening, no neck). Finally made sense to me. Karin S. edd 3-4-00 My childbirth instructor said the cervix had to widen to the size of a bagel, if that helps! Effacement is the thinning of the cervix so that it can stretch wide. Kaye

Another update......... Last I wrote, I was 100% effaced, 3cm dilated. Since I've posted I've been having regular contractions every 7-8 minutes since noon....3.5 hrs ago. They're all in my back (kid is posterior), and they don't hurt much at all....some worse than others. We'll see..... -K

Ok, well now it's Thursday, and the kid seems to be playing games.....as usual. I spent all yesterday and last night with contractions ~8 minutes apart, and now they've slowed down a LOT. Some are 1 hour apart. This stinks. I bet I dilated a cm or two more, but who knows?? I also think I expelled a bit of mucus (not a ton, but notably), and am *possibly* leaking fluid...unsure. Cervix kinda stings, too. Well, if nothing picks up by tomorrow, I'm gonna request another cervix check. Meanwhile, I'm just hanging in there. -Kay

I am glad you are having contractions at least. You must be getting close. I wish I could feel BH or contractions, never have. Sounds like you'll deliver before me. Good luck!!! Chris 39w5d

I know that it must be next to impossible to actually do, but try to relax and enjoy these last few hours or days of being pregnant. Remember, right now you have full use of both your hands, and you are constantly holding/carrying your baby. In a few days, you won't be able to do that, unless you use a sling. Some way or another, this baby is on its way out...it just seems to be taking its time. But, it will come out. Go see a movie, have dinner with your husband, take a nice warm bath, anything you can to enjoy these last hours. I hope it happens soon, and you are able to keep your sanity! Hugs.., Jamie
