Steven L. wrote Ed Stasiak wrote Man, they are _really_ trying to kill this show! Since ABC is unable to pad out their schedule with reruns of old Lost episodes, they are forced to find some other way to stretch 22 or 23 or 24 episodes to cover a whole year. Oct/Nov = 6 episodes Jan/Feb = 6 episodes Apr/May = 6 episodes July/Aug/Sept = 3 very special episodes (one each month, each two hours long) This would.... ....result in the actors and production staff quitting in disgust because they would have to work through the summer. (For example, July is when Evangeline Lilly and Dominic Monaghan are planning to have their honeymoon) Well, to be fair to Ed, the episodes airing in July wouldn't be filmed in July

But the main _object_ion to such a shooting schedule from the staff would be that it would almost require the production staff/actors to be on call throughout the year with no real breaks of any length, instead of the way 24 works, which only requires a little over a half-year of filming, allowing for a half-year to give to other projects. And, of course, the networks would have to schedule something else in the time slot in-between breaks - either one something else or three or more different something elses

My major _object_ion is that, _base_d on what happened earlier this season, the producers really aren't all that good at dividing the series in this way. Or maybe the series itself simply isn't one that works well broken up into mini-arcs. The mini-series late last year was fairly boring IMO and I'd hate to think that they'd face the decision to either try and write arcs for the series (which don't seem very adept at) or have to halt for one or more network-imposed breaks right when the show was gaining momentum. For instance, would you (or Ed, for that matter) have been happy if the series broke for a month or two between the last two episodes? Or between Par Avion and the one airing tonight? I know I sure wouldn't. If the the plan next season is to be as plot-oriented as this one has turned out to be, breaking it up would be really difficult, I think. RWG (but, of course, YMMV)
