Vernal Equinox March 20th Full Moon March 21st Following Sunday March 23rd What is wrong with that? _base_d on astronomical observation (rather than calendar calculations) it seems to fit the ancient rule for determining the date of Pascha (first Sunday after the first full moon after the Vernal equinox). Yes the Western Easter is March 23rd and Orthodox Pascha is April 27th. The Jewish Passover is April 20th. Now, if you go to the ORIGINAL formula for calculating the date of Pascha from Nicea 325, you'll find there is nothing in that formula that states the Christian celebration of Pascha has to be after the Jewish Passover. It does say that Christians cannot celebrate WITH the Jews on their Passover. In fact, churches in the Empire celebrated Pascha at different times according to their own calculations. ***How did it come about that the church interpreted not celebrating Pascha WITH the Jews to celebrating Pascha AFTER the Jewish Passover?
