My hair had finally gotten to the point where no-one including my DH could figure out what in hell color it was (albinistic redheads going grey...blargh). It had grown out to about 4 inches below my shoulders. It lived braided and clubbed up at the nape of my head where either my headset at work was ripping hunks out or I was leaving long, striped strands of hair hanging off of server racks. So...yesterday I went in to have it hacked off to my jawline and highlighted. Unfortunately, last night was prom night. Yesterday afternoon was when all the teensprogbrittanyspearsbitchlets had to come in to have their hair _style_d for prom. Argh. When they bitchlets come in to have their hair and nails and makeup done, they come in with 4-6 friends. They squeal, shriek, yak on cellphones (purple flashing cellphones no less). During the couple of hours it took to deal with MY mop of hair, I and my stylist (CF herself) witnessed no less than 4 meltdowns caused when parents refused to pay (called on cellphone to approve) for extra services, when bitchlets were told something couldn't be done with their hair, etc. We had screeching teenbitches, frustrated stylists, squealing teen friends, yelling parents coming in to pick up daughters, on and on and on. My stylist, whom I've been using for 10 years, told me that that hair, makeup, and nails for a prom-going sprogling costs 150 dollars. Dress costs up to 800K, the dinner afterwards (at an exclusive downtown restaurant) another 200 dollars or so, the share of the limo or bus, another 150 dollars...do the damned math... There was one sidelight that made it all worth it though: 2 yupscale sows were whining to each other while I was waiting under the hair-dryer: seems they'd just signed on leases for his and hers Benz-es . Their property taxes went up so the mortgage (7700 dollars?!) went up 300 dollars, one had a son going Bar-Mitsvah, the other a daughter going to prom. You shoulda heard 'em whining about how broke they were! One yupsow was actually worrying about how they'd pay the gas bill. They were dressed in those thousand dollar casual set outfits, perfectly coiffed and manicured...and they couldn't figure out how to pay the damned utilities?! One yupsow tried to drag me into the conversation to share the whine. I said, Oh...I don't have those problems. The only bill I have is my mortgage. She said, HOW do YOU do that? I said, simple, I know the difference between wants and needs, and while I might want something beyond my means, I don't need anything beyond my means. Kat

Kat Well, that's just silly.  How DO you expect to keep up with the Joneses? heh. Mary

Unbelievable isn't it?  My prom dress cost $35 dollars!  And that was extravagent.  I did get my hair done.  $12.  But things were a lot different wayyyyy back when.... Thank the gods. Cherise
No kidding! I went to my junior prom, never bothered with the senior one. Went in 1995. My dress was about $40, did my own hair. My best friend and I went with a mutual buddy who footed the bill for dinner...about $25 per person. If I had known they were gonna have so much finger food at the prom, I wouldn't have bothered with dinner! Prom was like $15 I think, and I didn't get any pictures, cause I really didn't care that much! Funny, I can be really frugal if need be. People still ask me how I got married for under $2,000. Simple. Don't invite half the town!!! Vercosa Who needs a damn prom anyway. Too close to pram in my book!
