hair colour blah hair colour - help

compliments on my hair colour. I have highlited it with whiter pieces for a few years. December 27th, I went to a very well known posh hair place because I heard they did good hair colour and I'm new in town. I didn't care so much about it being posh as I did their reputation. I supposedly had the best hair colour technician. HE said he'd put in a few lowlites to balance my hair out. I said that was fine. Best technician my ass. The colour he put in didn't grab at a golden blonde, it went black black black on some of my white bits! So I had really blah brown hair all in the front, and my nice natural golden colour in the back! it was a mess! So January 5th I went back to have them fix it. I went to another woman and she said that it would be complicated to remove the hair colour on the different hairs. I said I didn't think removing it was a great option, she should just pain over the brown/black strands with a golden colour. She said OH! ok! She did it. But missed huge chunks on my one side. But it did improve it. But now, a month later, my hair is just so bloody blah. Its like a dark muddy dishwater blonde/brown and it looks dirty and lifeless. ANd I hate it. So I don't know what to do. Could I colour it again (highlites only this time?) or should I wait? Im confused. Im not going back to that salon. $100 totally wasted. thanks. alex
