Maybe help limit my posts here I don't think Date does classes and anyway he has said that data_base_ design is not his favourite subject because it's too subjective. Still mostly an artistic endeavour, not a scientific one - a state of affairs that [...] I find less than fully satisfactory . ( Date on Data_base_ , 2006). He does appear at conferences sometimes. You could do worse than check out Solid Quality. They have a good reputation and some highly knowledgeable instructors. www.solidq.com

Most decent data modeling courses emphasize heavily on books especially ones that offer good theoretical foundations. Date's relational writing (you might find used copies in Amazon) series has some of the best books on the subject in terms of clarity however his materials are not aimed at teaching data modeling per se. Some other names you can search for are Graeme Simsion, David Hay, Halpin etc. but regardless of the author, watch out of biases, opinions and subjective judgments that are prevalent in many of them.

If you want a good class on modeling, tryhttp://www.kimballgroup.com/. Kimball is one of the best for Dimensional modeling around. For transactional modeling, once you learn the techniques in Dimensional, you should be able to go to transactional. Do I detect a hint of irony or are you serious? Just in case others don't get it, my advice would be to stay well away from Kimball's dimensional hand-waving until you've learnt something about real design principles. What Kimball has to offer is basically a truckload of jargon and so-called design patterns but not the fundamental tools for understanding or evaluating those designs or for solving some real problems. His books are all about his own solutions but they fail to deal with fundamental issues or point out alternatives. I say this having read his books and worked with other Kimball practitioners. It's possible I am wrong about his courses but I don't think so.
