Yes,I am loosing hair at 22. PLEASE, tell me what in your opinion could help, shampoos, medication, diet, lifestile .... whatever, I am quite desperate. Castration is guaranteed to work, but it's a bit drastic.  The _only_ other treatment which has been shown to slow hair loss and promote hair growth is a topical solution of minoxidil, and it isn't all that effective.  It does tend to work better in people who are just beginning to lose their hair, as opposed to men who have been bald or balding for several years.  Shampoos, diet, life_style_ are all irrelevant when the genes in your hair follicles are simply responding to the male sex hormones your body is producing.

No current treatment has anything more than a slight effect on male pattern baldness. Save your money and get used to the idea of losing your hair.

Alex, There are many alternative medical practices that can improve the condition of your scalp.  Whether that translates into less hair loss is not known.  There are no studies that I am aware of that have been conducted on the use of these techniques *concurrently* in order to allay hair loss.  As you probably know, there a very few studies in the scientific community that involve the concurrent use of alternative medical techniques to overcome disease.  However, I do know of people who have had some success with these techniques. One of the most important lessons that I've learned through the practice of alternative medicine is to start the healing process by building a sturdy foundation upon which other healing techniques can be added.  A low-fat, natural foods diet is a crucial part of that foundation (IMO).  You may want to consider looking at McDougall or Ornish diet plans in order to get some ideas as to what I'm talking about.  Personally, I believe a fairly healthy diet can consist of whole grains, vegetables, fruits, legumes, sea vegetables, nuts, seeds, soy products, and fresh juices.  I prefer to cut out meat, dairy, sugar (and sugar substitutes), preservatives, and food that cause allergic reactions due to their detrimental health effects. Anyone who believes that they can heal illnesses and still eat the typically unhealthy, Standard American Diet (S.A.D.) is fooling themselves, *in my opinion.* In addition to a healthy, natural foods diet, a regular exercise program is very important in building a sturdy foundation of health.   I prefer an exercise program that a) I enjoy, b) works both the muscles and the cardiovascular system, and c) allows me to work up a sweat (very important in my experience for people with skin/scalp problems). Finally, in order to finish building a sturdy foundation, the psychological/emotional problems need to be dealt with.  Physical and emotional stress can cause a lot of health problems.  I strongly believe that stress and other emotional problems can play a big part in skin and scalp problems.  Some people practice Yoga and meditation in order to reduce that stress and learn to relax the body and mind.   When the body and mind is in more of a relaxed state, healing can proceed at a faster pace.  Some friends of mine have had success by going to a body-oriented psychotherapist in order to relieve psychological problems and their physical symptoms.  My experience is that simply by changing the diet, exercise, and healing the psychological/emotional problems, an enormous amount of healing can take place. Some people have eaten a poor diet for a long time (i.e., lots of meat, dairy, and sugar).  Such people often have an enormous amount of fat and mucous and toxins in their body.  It is often suggested that these people try some of the more powerful herbal cleansing programs and skin cleansing programs available.  Otherwise, these toxins will continue to wreak havoc within the body and continue to poison the blood (which feeds the tissue and skin).  If you are interested in any of these cleansing techniques, please email me and I will describe them to you. Finally, at the end of this post is a copy of a letter I sent regarding some other symptomatic, alternative healing techniques that have been used to improve the health of the scalp. I hope this helps.  Please feel free to email me if you have any questions regarding my experiences.  If you find something that works for you, I'd love to hear about it.  Good luck!                                - Mark                         Copy of email ******************************************************************* XXXXX, Attached to this letter is a copy of a letter which I sent to someone else with a hair/scalp-related question.  The recommendations in that letter were mostly natural, yet *symptomatic* remedies to scalp problems. The real cause of the problem may have more to due with diet, built-up toxins in the body, or pscyological aspects which aren't addressed below.  You asked about homeopathy.  Homeopathic remedies might help, but they really won't address the cause of your hair problem (IMHO). Exercise is very important in any program to improve (or upkeep) one's health.  It increases the _meta_bolic rate and allows the body to excrete more toxins through the skin.  Skin and scalp problems are almost always caused by unexcreted toxins in the body.  I remember reading a holistic health book years ago that told a story where many of the top holistic health practitioners got together to decide on the most important technique to improve health.  After much debate, they finally agreed that working up a healthy sweat by exercises was the best and most basic way to improve health.  I don't know if I totally agree with that, but it does speak to the importance of exercise.  If I were you, I'd start by creating an exercise regime that is fun and that you'll enjoy so much that you'll want to stick to it. There are a whole slew of things you can try related to diet, toxin cleansing, psychological inventories, etc., etc.  You may want to first try some of the simplier remedies mentioned below first. You may also want to see an M.D. just to explore all avenues thoroughly. Please email me if you want more aggressive alternative health remedies (herbal cleansing regimens, skin purges, etc.) for scalp problems. Good luck!                              - Mark P.S.

You have a flair for understatement.  Anyway, I would say that guaranteed is probably too strong, since I understand that hair loss in women is on the rise these days and I don't think anyone knows why. Women can have androgen-dependent hair loss, too, since they normally produce small amounts of androgens in their adrenal glands and ovaries; however, the hair loss tends to be diffuse and rather less
