nail care More nail obsession: Good nail finisher
A while ago I accompanied my lovely wife to a Sally Beauty Supply shop (amazing the things we'll do to maintain domestic serenity), where I moseyed over to the nail care products and discovered a Miracle Buff and Shine Block , which is a foam block about 3/4 X 3/4 X 3 with a slightly abrasive surface on one side (a foam with some sort of fine grit _embed_ded, not like sandpaper or emery paper) and a smooth buffing surface on the other. I bought one ($1.99) and tried it - after the nail is filed to shape, I use it to polish and buff the surface that contacts the string. I find it to work better than anything I have ever used. They wear out in two or three months, but at 2 bucks a shot it doesn't seem excessive: scratchy, thin tone becomes nice and fat. Sallybeauty.com shows it on their website, but state that it is available only in stores. I searched the Web and found it at http://www.uniquechoices4u.com/Pages/nailcare.html. This appears to be a wholesaler to salons, and they show a list price of $2.90. Anyway, you may be able to find it locally. It's called Miracle Buff & Shine Block by All Season Nails, Inc., item # 154795. Also, this probably isn't news to many, but I recently found Krazy Glue with a brush applicator, which works MUCH better for split nails than the old drop-_style_ applicator.

I use the 3-way buffer block....... http://www.the-sensual-world.com/proddetail.php?prod=nak1 Sounds similar to the one your using, I do my normal filing, then when all nails are shaped right, use the shining block to smooth off any debris left over. As you say, it's a kind of soft-foam stuff, works wonders. Gives a much mellower tone, because the nail tips are all nice and smooooth.
