But something came up a week ago and I had to cancel my appt, and since I needed a haircut when I called them back later the next appt wasn't for awhile, so on friday beth tells me that there is a place her brother used to go where you can just walk in without an appt and they do ok work. To best set up the experience I guess I should describe what the place I'd been getting my hair cut is like. You walk in the first room which is small and there is a hostess-type sitting alone at a desk and she greets you and leads you into the waiting room where you sign in and wait with others. No hair is being cut in this second waiting room. Then after a few minutes one of the assistants comes in and escorts you to a room where your hair is washed. Then the assistant escorts you into another room where your hairdresser is waiting. I walk into this new place on saturday at about two oclock and once you step in hair is being cut. There is no receptionist, there is no waiting room, there are no shampoo rooms. Everything is just right out there in the open. So all the hairdressers are working on other people so I figure I'll have to wait. I take a number(is this a salon or a deli?) and sit down to wait. All of a sudden one of the hairdressers finishes with their customer and starts calling out numbers. One after the other. Each time she calls out a number the other men waiting with lower numbers than me point at other hairdressers they are waiting to finish. Then she gets to my number and I'm wondering if I should do what the others did and just wait for someone else.....I mean I don't know if i should pick someone who three consecutive people passed over. But what the hell do I know as I've never been here before and all the hairdressers might suck, or maybe this women is a diamond in the rough. So I sit down and she acts like she's about to start cutting my hair and I'm like is someone going to wash my hair first ? She says I can, does it need to be washed? . I mean I guess it doesn't because I had washed it when I took a shower 4 hrs or so ago, but I'd never had a haircut where the salon didn't wash your hair first, whether it needed it or not. So I just shake my head and say I guess it's fine and she gets to work. She's alternating between using scissors and a contraption that makes a sucking sound whenever she puts it up to my head.
