: : Where would acts like Militia fit into this? I can't say, not familiar w/ Militia Personally, since they record in a _style_ very clearly in line with some of the original industrial acts, I'm comfortable with labelling them as such. However, they'd be some variety of post-industrial if you subscribe to the rule that *only* artists who released on Indrustrial Records are industrial.

(used loosely) and _meta_l. Picture Chemlab, Cubanate, the middle generation of Clay People, etc. also Swamp Terrorists, Biopsy, Hanzel Und Gretyl, Saints Of Eden... In the mainstream, some might consider Fear Factory and Rammstein, but it couldn't apply to all their songs and albums. No, industrial music continues, and has nothing to do with these bands. It is not, unfortunately, the subject of this newsgroup, and those of us interested in it tend to discuss it on mailing lists. Major current acts include Whitehouse, Brighter Death Now, Genocide Organ, Militia, Con-Dom, The Grey Wolves, Der Blutharsch and Death In June. Labels include Tesco, CMI, Cold Spring, Malignant, Loki, Tactical, Slaughter, Freak Animal etc. etc. It is a small but very strong scene, and many of the original pioneers are still active in it. The anti-everything punk/experimental ethos that was and is industrial is still clearly found in this scene. I once brought up the question of noise & power electronics as the natural straight-line progression for the original industrial genre. Some argued against it but your example should make this more obvious. -steph www.raisinlove.com rezinluv @ gashed.com webmaster @ mutemag.com webmaster @ drawnandquarterly.com webmaster @ artoffact.com webmaster @ elam.qc.ca Arguing on the internet is like running in the special olympics - even if you win, you're still a retard

This sure is getting confusing. Terms, such as, coldwave are new to me. I know what EBM is (I think). But coldwave ? Sounds like something you do to your hair. It's a concise popular term for electronic _meta_l / cock-rock like Ministry, KMFDM, Chemlab, 16 Volt etc. etc. All the big dumb American-_style_ 'yee-haw' stuff. Industrial Records, which was around in the late seventies, early eighties. I'm not sure of specific dates. People like Throbbing Gristle, Monte Cazzaza(sp?), WSB. Technically everything else is post industrial. You're confusing industrial the music genre with Industrial the record label There's a big difference. This label spawned a genre, which isn't limited to the it's (copyrighted) name. Besides, they're alot of variety between these bands. According to your definition, any artist hanging out with them, jamming and doing live support for the official label bands while not being on the label themselves, could not consider themselves industrial artists with their solo work at that time. Hey, I was just trying to score points with Locke. Seriously though, I thought that was the true definition of industrial. I'm not saying I agree with it, because it leaves out artists like EN, Puppy, and Korn. np: Radiohead OK Computer
