What's a serving of chicken to you? Curious Mind wants to know. Other than an occasional large family pack of skinless/boneless breasts I never buy cut up chicken. I buy whole roasting chickens (typically 5-7 lbs) and either roast them whole or quartered, sometime I cut them into eighths. But regardless I always cook the entire package of breasts (typically 6-8 halves), or the entire roasting chicken. I don't bother with fryers, too much bone and fat in proportion to meat, plus why bother cleaning two mini chickens. I don't mind at all eating the same thing three days in a row... there're a lot of ways to prepare cooked meats. A portion for me is usually one breast half and maybe part of another (cats eat most of a half). With whole roasters I'll eat about a quarter (again I share with six cats so it never comes out evenly). And I really like cold sliced chicken sandwiches (so do the cats, I can't slice fast enough), I rarely make chicken salad because my cats hate mayo. I typically have my sliced chicken sandwiches Stan-_style_, with Heinz red. Of course nothing is written in stone, I'm very flexible with portion size, sometimes I'll eat more, sometimes less... and depends what's with it... during summer when my crops are coming in I eat less meat but lots of salad... sometimes there so much salad I go meatless for 2-3 days... I make the salads more filling with the addition of canned beans, hard cooked eggs, cheese, even pasta. With pork chops I'll cook three, that's enough for me and the cats... and most times there's one left for lunch the next day. I don't do bone-in pork loin roasts unless I have company... same with beef roasts, I won't make a large roast for just me, but I will make say a three pound top round/eye round, lasts about three days. Have to remember that cooked weight meat is substantially less than raw weight... a three pound roast will yield about 2 1/4 pounds cooked, not really a lot for me and six cats over three days. I also eat a lot of fresh fruit, typically 4-5 pieces a day. For a very long time I've been in the habit of eating a piece or two of fresh fruit about an hour before dinner, like a whole peeled grapefruit, a large orange, an apple, a banana, whatever I have... this cuts way down on how much high calorie foods I'll eat for dinner. I also prefer fresh fruit as a snack before bed time... a half a cantaloupe is a lot better than diving into that half gallon of ice cream. SHELDON

veggies for dinner, to be honest. I'm in an anti-meat mode these days. Meat doesn't appeal to me and I'm not supposed to eat it anyway, so I guess it's a good thing. :-/ Probably a good thing for you, yes. I'm a carnivore through and through, though. However, that doesn't mean I consume mass quantities in one sitting! We're having a couple of guests over for a late lunch today and they requested bacon-wrapped filet mignon (they're buying). I'm thinking I'll make roasted garlic mashed potatoes and they're requesting pure asparagus - meaning nothing added. I could live without garlic mashed potatoes. I mean, they're okaaay. But I suspect the trend started so restaurants (other than your meat loaf & mashed potatoes type diners) could justify putting mashed potatoes on the menu and charging $$ for them I'll be eating some asparagus tainted with butter, lemon and parmesan cheese. I'll be happy. kili Sounds good! I could eat unadulterated asparagus but your way is much more appealing. Jill Come on over. I'll share asparagus with you. (Actually, given your current location, you're probably closer to me than if you were in TN!) kili

My bad, I thought you had dogs and i was about to hit you up for some dog food ideas <grin. I am the recent happy owner of 2 'unadoptable' rescue pets. Daisy, the cat due to being very shy around people (exceptionally so, we are the only family in 18 months who made an offer but she is a lap kitty with us. Slated to be euthanized just as we applied). Cash (beagle mix, suspected but no way to confirm, may be part bull mastiff or part english bulldog) who had heartworms pretty bad so no one wanted him. Will need lifelong special care. Espensive to adopt too as they pass on the medical treatment costs to the adopter (190$ and not even neutered yet because of health reasons). Anyways, was gonna hit you up for dog recipes <g. He needs heart heathy low-sodium ones and while like all dogs, he needs protien, he's not suited to a full meat diet (digestive problems, not to be fed the highest end almost 100% protein stuff). He's also underweight by at least 2 lbs, possibly 7 still. Imagine a beagle of 41.5 lbs being underweight! hehehe he's a mix obviously. First glance, big beagle. Second take, OHMYGHOD BIG MUSCLED BEAGLE! Due to his age and still filling out, they arent sure of his optimum weight yet, just that he's short of it still. And no, he's not as big as a bull mastiff, just body conformation measures match that real close. Personaility, typical airheaded beagle. Oh, sorry. Got a little OT there didnt I?

I'll be honest, my husband is a glutton. A serious glutton. LOL. But, again, when we cook any kind of meat, there usually aren't any side dishes. It's hard for me to gauge how much we*do* consume. We never eat together and I'm pretty much a vegetarian. Neither one of us is overweight (although my husband is known as The Fat Man in Usenet circles). LOL. LOL! That sounds so much like home! Don's 5'9 and weighs 170 after years of slowly trying to fatten him up (used to be 140 when we married!).
