: Since I'm a very lazy cook I love the steam-in-the-bag vegetables they have now - just toss them in the microwave for a few minutes and voila they're done. Where are these in the store? In the frozen vegetable section? Sounds like something I'd like to try. I may be wrong, but they sound to me like something that will cost more yet be no better than putting some frozen veggies in a microwave-safe container with a Tbs. of water. It does cost a little more but I like the fact that it's nicely portion-controlled (enough for a LARGE serve for two people, or a smaller one for three) and doesn't make any other dishes dirty! I always microwave them for about a minute less than the packet says - I like my vegetables lightly done - and they come out great if you do it right.

They cost about 20 cents more than just the regular frozen bagged veg for us. We use the broccoli mostly. I like the beans... I don't usually like green beans but they come out just right in this. (as for price, I wait until they're on sale and then stock up with a month's worth - we don't eat them every day). I wouldn't buy them for a large family because it would cost a fortune but I think it's okay for two.

For the past 10 years I have lived in Las Vegas. I got in the habit of eating fast food (quick, easy, cheap) for just about every meal. When I didn't have fast food, I ate frozen dinners or cereal. Well, after 10 years of this I am just about to hit 300 pounds. And there went your dreams of being a showgirl, eh? I made up one the other night... stick four pieces of chicken in a baking pan and dump a can of cream of mushroom soup and bake at 350 for 1.5 hours. Delicious! If you like things like that, you might want to look at the group: rec.food.recipes -sw

I need some really easy recipes to follow, but first a little explanation... For the past 10 years I have lived in Las Vegas. I got in the habit of eating fast food (quick, easy, cheap) for just about every meal. When I didn't have fast food, I ate frozen dinners or cereal. Well, after 10 years of this I am just about to hit 300 pounds. So I decided to make a change. I am walking to the bus stop every day for work (doesn't sound like much but for me its very hard to walk 3 blocks) and for 2007 I will not eat fast food. I am not dieting, I am just doing those 2 things. I need recipes that use regular, inexpensive ingredients that you would find every day at the grocery store. Easy, inexpensive, dinner: 1. Hamburger. Buy hamburger meat. Form into patties. Place in frying pan. Heat over medium-high heat until brown on one side. Turn with spatula. Brown on other side. Serve with salt and pepper. 2. Broccoli or cauliflower. Boil water in a sauce pan. Cut broccoli or cauliflower into flowettes. When water is boiling, put in vegetables. Cover and remove from heat. Time exactly 5 minutes. When timer goes off, drain off water. Serve with butter or salad dressing or a squeeze of lemon. 3. Sweet potato. Microwave potato for 8 minutes. Then put in 400 degree oven for 30-50 minutes until soft inside when poked with a knife. Serve mashed with butter, salt, pepper. None of these ingredients are particularly expensive nor complicated to make, but it's a good, balanced meal and still suitable for serving to guests. It has the advantage of not being too weird for someone who is used to fastfood. Let us know how your new eating regimen goes. As you become familiar with simple recipes, I'd like to suggest more recipes and cookbooks.
