Different from the other thread, as this doesn't work for dinner, but this is the definition of comfort food.  Hot from the oven, it's irresistible and it is rare that it lasts more than one day in my house: 6-8 cups stale Italian bread, broken up into pieces. 1 quart milk (skim is fine; that's all I ever have) 3 eggs 2 cups sugar (I like dark brown; light brown or plain granulated is fine, too) 1 Tbs vanilla 1 tsp cinnamon 1 tsp nutmeg 1 cup raisins (optional) Mix together.  Mixture should be wet, but not soupy.  If too soupy, add more bread. Put in buttered 9 X 13 casserole and bake at 350 for 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until golden brown. Try to wait until it's cool before serving, but good luck with that. Enjoy!
