Hi Folks: So the neighbor gave me a 10 pound green cabbage. Any suggestions on how to put it up, besides making kraut? What does a normal cabbage weigh? I have recipes for freezer slaw that were written by people down in the small states. They all say, 2 large heads cabbage, shredded and stuff like that. I don't know how many pounds a normal head of cabbage weighs in Texas or Oklahoma. I have a good recipe for Spicy Pickled Beets, if anyone grew a good crop of beets this year. (The recipe is probably out of the 2003 Ball Blue Book, if you have a copy.) Jan

A typical head of red or green cabbage in good condition is very dense. I don't happen to have one on hand to weigh it, but I would guess 4 pounds easily. Alan T
