I received a coupon in the mail for a free box of this.  I have never colored my hair, other than salon highlights once.  Could someone tell me exactly what this is?  I gathered from the box that it's not for a dramatic color change, but more like a way to enhance your own color

it will if it's darker than your natural color, just not if it's lighter, since the product won't lighten. That's so true!!! I'm extra-light ash blonde(naturally blonde but getting darker w/age so I get it highlighted), and I tried this in between highlights(the very lightest shade) and it made my whole head darker with a greyish/greenish (ashy) cast. My sister-in-law who is my hairdresser said, What the hell did you do that for??? You should have asked me, Casting does exactly that
