I have a specific song I would like to have played during the end credits.  What is the reality of actually getting that song for it? I'd appreciate answers from two perspectives. 1) A spec screenplay.  Do you put it specifically down in the screenplay?   END CREDIT played to the tune of...  I assume so.  It would be a great way to end the film.  But what are the real odds, the specific song getting used?  Or is this something that screenwriters are not to dabble in? 2) Independent film.  If you're producing it yourself, how exactly do you get a specific song for your film.  If it matters, the one I have in mind is quite old (copyrighted in the late 50s) and used in numerous films since.  What hurtles do you have to jump through?  How long does it usually take to get?  How much does such usually cost? Thanks in advance! Scott

I wouldn't. And most conventional wisdom says not to. There are always exceptions but this is something

I think that the standard fee for using a song in amovie or tv show is $30,000. Most indie directors start the ball rolling at $500, in my experience, and chip in with it'll be great promotion for your artist, and we're currently examining new revenue models . But it's more realistic to use $15-30,000 as a ball figure. If you know the song, chances are it had some sort of success and the price will reflect that. Just remember you have to secure two rights: the master use of the recording (if you recorded it, that's yours) and the publishing or synch rights that could belong to another company entirely. M

What about for a TV pilot?  What about for a TV pilot released on YouTube.com to build public interest? Scott
