Not a big concern to Eric, but it WAS a big concern to me when the trans. stranded my family on a highway late a night some 850 miles from home and at just 12,000 miles on the odometer! _base_d on evidence, you can stretch that model year to the mid-1990s as the failures are *stil* occurring! Hey, that's a familiar story! We live in MA

TARGET, Carl! _base_d on your post, I think *you* are the unhappy one. I am sorry my posts make you so unhappy, but your HARSH words will not turn me away from speaking to others. Intimidation is unhealthy! Well, you're both unhappy IMHO. Your posts don't make me unhappy either, they bother me because of your lack of respectability and your lack of common sense when making claims about Chrysler cars. I'm not claiming to be the Know-all of Chrysler cars but your claims are way off _base_ with little evidence to back it up. Perhaps if you used a little restraint in your posts you could reach more people. TTYL Eric Bin

However, I have supported her work on the failing ABS systems, not once have I spoken out against her work on ABS systems since I have insufficient evidence to say weather she is right or wrong. I recently attended two seminars (not related to autos). There were 21 people at the first one. Two of us (including myself) had experienced total brake failure in a Chrysler mini-van due to Bendix-10 ABS defects. There were 29 people at the second seminar. Three of us (two mini-vans, one car) had experienced total brake failure due to ABS defects. 4 of the 5 had had multiple failures, after inadaquate repairs, all on Chrysler vehicles. One of the 5 had the failure on a GM vehicle. He had only had a single failure (so far). Although this is a small sample and may not be representative of the vehicles as a whole, this high a failure incidence is scary. Do I believe Bendix-10 ABS failures are entirely Chrysler's fault? NO. Bendix (Allied Signal) clearly has a large part of the responsibility. Do I believe Chrysler has an obligation to inform consumers about the problems and perform whatever repairs are required to make the brakes functional and reliable, without the consumer having to experience multiple failures? YES! Do I believe Chrysler is doing this? DEFINITELY NOT! (From recent personal experiences!) I am now driving a Nissan. I recommend that everyone else buy something other than a Chrysler or a GM vehicle until Chrysler and GM publicly admit there are serious problems with these brakes, and quit endangering lives (including those of us who no longer drive ABS equiped Chryslers or GMs but do have to share the road with them) by refusing to perform proper and complete repairs until forced to. (Transmission failures and whether or not a permanent ABS fix is feasible are different discussions entirely.) Your (and other people's) opinion(s) may differ. However, I suggest we *ALL* tone the verbal abuse down. Ranting and name-calling add no useful information to these discussions. Differences of opinion can and *should* be handled in a civil manner.

: I won't debate the ABS thing, seems to be some sort of problem. The : tranny I will dispute, I haven't seen much evidence to say that their : trannies are prone to failure. If problems with Chrysler minivans were : so rampant why do they have the highest repeat buyer rate of any vehicle : on the road? I think you exaggerate again Charlene but at least you've : dropped you misguided campaign against the rear latches so cheers to that. I suppose you will say the ABS problem is related to the driver error issue? No, that is NOT it. The public is not aware of the extent of the *mechanical* failures which have been permanent and costly. You might consider all the owners who have told me they have gotten rid of their minivans. Yes, these vans are being resold and many have *inherited* the problems of the previous owners (yes, I have actual facts from owners and second owners). It amazes me how many folks sell these vans after just two years....in many cases, it is the quality issue and the costs of repairs that enter into that decision. No, I have not been on any such latch crusade. I talked to some owners who were involved in the matter personally and I gave their accounts and what I thought about the matter. Then, I was attacked verbally by those who felt I should not have the chance to speak on the issue. : I wouldn't say you're lying, I say you're exaggerating. You're right to : say problems exist for Chrysler but you're WAY WAY WAY wrong when you say : that all Chryslers are timebombs. As regards to reason, I figure you're : now in it to hurt Chrysler sales at any cost to your respectability and : creditbility on this newsgroup. I am not lying and I am not exaggerating. I have only spoken about the *real* owner problems and my contacts have primarily been those who have had the actual failures or those who wanted to know about those failures but who hadn't yet experienced any. **YOU** can figure all you want to, but Chrysler sales have NOT been **my** issue. I am frankly unconcerned what Chrysler sales are and have not given it any real thought. I have networked with owners and discussed the matters which unite us...primarily MAJOR premature failures in the major components of our vehicles, not to mention the $$ matter and the very important safety issues. I can guarantee you that those of us who have talked are not the least bit worried about how Chrysler sales are doing.....on the *other* hand, we are *very* concerned about our own welfare and the welfare of similarlyaffected owners elsewhere. I do not think in corporate terms; I think in **human** terms. If you are tied to the business side of things, I can see where you might ***misinterpret*** my intent. But, often the corporate heads are unable to **empathize** with the owners because they are simply too far removed from them and can only see the $$ side of things. And, may I ask what you mean by now in it.... ? Shall we turn the mirror (as we did in Carl's case) back on you and ask, why are you seemingly trying to protect Chrysler from the wrath of the owners? I have no concerns about my so-called respectability or credibility because I do speak the truth and I am unashamed of anything I have said. I am not here to win a popularity contest. My information is useful to some; to some it is not. Period. I never in my wildest dreams expected to find the ABS problem so prevalent....as I said before, I *thought* I had a rather unique and isolated lemon. I was mistaken. : But the truth isn't what you believe Charlene. It's a middle ground : between where you are and where, say, Carl is. And how can you say this? You cannot unless you are *intricately* involved either with Chrysler or the consumer side of the matter. Since you *claim* not to be affiliated with CC and you have not had the ABS problem or investigated the matter, then just how do you know that what I believe is not the truth?? I am sorry to disappoint you, but there is no middle ground to this matter. You cannot minimize a *major* problem unless you are in a state of denial. : they bother me because of your lack of respectability and your lack of : common sense when making claims about Chrysler cars. I'm not claiming to : be the Know-all of Chrysler cars but your claims are way off _base_ with : little evidence to back it up. Perhaps if you used a little restraint in : your posts you could reach more people. I beg to differ....it is *precisely* common sense that will lead owners to seek the evidence of the problems. There should be *no consumer restraint* when it comes to owners informing other owners of like vehicles. Restraint=apathy, complacency, and perpetuation of the cycle we all are *currently* experiencing with automakers. You *want* this? Then, use all the restraint you can muster. You want *equality* in the marketplace? Then, inform others, receive information from others, and protect yourself.....No one else will if you do not.

Does anyone know how to reset the counter that sets a flag at 70,001 miles (end of warranty) so everything suddently fails? We had our 89 Voyager inspected (visual and test drive) just before end-of-warranty. They did find and fix a wheel bearing problem for us for free through our extended warranty, but just after 70K miles, the tailgate lift handle fell off, the head gasket blew, and the drivers window crank mechanism broke. I can't stand it...
