OK folks, the show's over. Peter King (NY), ringleader of the anti-Newt drive, announced that he was dropping his call for Newt to step down. The ring consisted of King and basically TWO other guys, Steve Largent (OK) and Chris Shays (CT). This was one the biggest non-events of the year, judging by all the Usenet commentary and speculation. ________________________________________________________________ We can look forward to four more years of wonderful, inspirational speeches full of wit, poetry, music, love and affection, plus more goddamn nonsense. David Brinkley, ABC News, after Clinton clinched his re-election.

I have met very few adults that are able to deal with changing their personalities. As much as Newtie might say he has changed, he is so out of touch, that even if he tries, his record of bad judgement will follow him and he will screw it up worse. The Republican party may never recover.

Judging from newt's approval rating, the republican party would more likely than not, fare better with a new speaker. gp In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.... Douglas Adams

Newt's been found innocent of over trumped up 70 charges filed by Democrats. Now they want us to believe that he lied to the congressional commitee that approved his teaching of a college course, even though no one has came out with any specific accusation that can be proved? We know that Mrs. Clinton created documents that were used to defraud the government and we know that her testimony before a congressional commitee is at odds with numerous other's statements. These are facts....Newts accusations are innuendo.

Hell, it's now common knowledge that Clinton flat-out lied about the meetings with an Indonesian businessman, claiming they were purely social visits. Now that the election is over, we find that Clinton followed Lindsey's advice on this, over the _object_ions of the lawyers he'd retained to screen ethical matters. Further, Huang is being investigated to see if he solicited election funds for Clinton while still working for the US government, in violation of Federal law, and coincidnetally, the phone logs that are being checked weren't turned over by the Clinton administration until after the election... Any leader or perceived leader of a party with an approval rating as low as newt's is bound to cost the party votes across the board. ZB Repubs who may want to leave the Planet. 1. Phone NASA.
