Did you see the PBS show where they reunited 2 circus elephants, one horribly crippled from her years of service, who had not seen each other for 20 years? Okay, I defy anyone to watch that show and not bawl your eyes out (I'm weeping just thinking about it.)  The elephants trumpeted to each other all night long and actually bent the thick steel bars of their enclosures so they could touch each other. They now live together on a farm in Tennessee.   The healthy one walks the crippled one all over the farm by shoring up her bad leg with her body. These animals DO NOT belong in circuses, or carnivals, or any venue for human amusement or material gain. They belong in herds where they obviously treasure each and every member. I fear you know not of what you speak. And it's people like you that think you are being generous that are dangerous. It is a very comfortable way to think... to assume everyone is happy and nothing is wrong... but it couldn't be further from the truth. I know not everyone is happy; I know there is a great deal wrong with the world, including the world of the circus. I was simply speculating that Indian elephants may be tempermentally different enough from African elephants to be in the circus. I do not think I am being generous at all. All that said, the last time I was here (the medical students who screwed with Eunice) Barbara and I fought like heck and I'm rather enjoying not fighting with her this time around. And she very may well be a brave person. But I would not cite her OJ stance as a reason why. Her stance on MJ might be a better example, since there is no evidence to suggest he forced anyone to do anything. Yes, agreed.  Barbara has big fights with everyone, including me, and I have no desire to fight with her (or you) either! I do not, though, see it as a matter of courage.  The woman is a fucking terrier, after all.  It's important, IMO, to allow a range of views, even those that fly in the face of evidence or received wisdom.  It forces people of conviction to sharpen their ideas & arguments.  Personally, I have the *opinion* that OJ was as guilty as sin, but I do not *know* that for a fact, not even after all the publicity of the trial.
